What Type Of Food Is In Venezuela ?

Venezuela’s food and drink is not pervasive. It just pertains to the state or area one is at. Many of the Venezuelan plates string from French, Italian, and Spanish recipes.

There is nothing wrong with that. But Venezuelans have added their own tastes and flavors and now they can boast they have their own menus as well. Evolution seems to have taken root as it usually does.  Along the coast, fresh fish and shellfish form a strong monopoly on many of the dishes. Tubers such as potatoes and yucca are prevalent in the highlands. Three main foods can be found country wide and they are rice, corn, and pasta. One cannot go wrong with that. As a tourist inches closer to the Amazon, more tropical fruits and vegetables should be expected to be found. Cumin is a delicious spice that is sprinkled on many foods in this South American country.

Breakfast in this natural resource rich country persists with a small pastry or toast with tea, coffee, or juice. Ham crescent rolls, called Cachitos de Jamon, are seen all over. Like me, Venezuelans like to have their main meal in the middle aspect of the day. This is when restaurants promote their favorite plates, specials, and flavors. Compared to western meals and prices, the prices here for food are quite low. One can grub pretty good here for about $3 - $5. That is worth a taste just on the pricing note alone. And this is not just for certain restaurants or for these lunch meals, compared to the prices in the US or Europe, quality food is does not require emptying one’s wallet.Called the menu ejecutivo or menu cubierto, these meals are generally simple and filling,” writes Gill. The caloric intake for dinner drops precipitously.
A $30 shrimp dinner in the US may only strike about a $10 price tag in Venezuela. How about a steak for about $5? Beer for a $1 and a cheap wine bottle for about $3, still not bad. Bottled water is encouraged and this only costs about ten cents.

All tourists should try the Pabellon. This is the national dish and it will have a mixture of rice, black beans, and banana littered with stewed and shredded beef. Mmm…, where is the sign up sheet?
