It rests between Columbia and Guyana. Its geography is a little more than two California’s. Whose economy is almost as decrepit as Venezuela’s. California has about 10 million more people to Venezuela’s 26 million. Some remarkable topographical features of Venezuela are the Andes Mountains and Maracaibo Lowlands in the northwest, central plains which are called the llanos, and the Guiana Highlands in the Southeast.

Venezuela has its share of environmental issues. There is a sewage mess in Lago de Valencia. Lago de Maracaibo is seeing enough urban and oil pollution. In addition, it is eyeing deforestation and soil degradation. Both of which can hamper food production. The Caribbean coast is seeing a rise in urban and industrial pollution. This is scaring the ecosystem of the rainforest which is primarily due to unregulated or unchecked mining operations. Venezuela is highly over regulating its society but they are allowing mining to go have free reign. That does not make a lot of sense.

Venezuela is one of three countries that survived from the grim destruction of Gran Columbia in 1830. For most of the first half of the last century, Venezuela was controlled by a few decent military dictators. They advocated the oil industry and oversaw some vital social societal progress. Ever since 1959, democracy has ruled supreme. This all ended in 1999 when their country was hijacked by power hungry and greedy Hugo Chavez. What he calls “21st Century Socialism,” most people would call it the vanity and stupidity of a classic bully. He claims he will be a panacea to social controversies while pointing his finger at capitalism. He does not believe in free trade despite the proof that it works. He rails against globalization and rarely takes any responsibility for his country’s horrendous economy based on his radical changes.
