The country of Guyana is officially recognized as the ‘Co-operative Republic of Guyana’. It is the only state in the nation amongst the Commonwealth of Nations that is based on South American mainland. Achieving its independence in the year 1966, it is considered as the third-largest country of South America. Guyana has been supporting the country’s parliamentary system since independence, a pretty long time. The country became the British Colony during the year 1931 and after that it was popularly called as British Guiana.
Georgetown is the capital of this country located towards north of equator. The national motto of the country is “One People, One Nation, One Destiny". It is one of the four countries where Spanish is not used as a language and only English speaking country on the continent. The languages that are commonly used by the people are Creole, English, Hindi, Amerindian dialects and Urdu.
Guyanese dollar is the currency that is used in the country. Moreover, the religions that are practiced in Guyana are Hinduism, Christianity as well as Islam. Essequibo River is the longest river. Besides this, Victoria Amazonia is believed as the National Flower. Last but not the least; the biggest open-pit mine of gold in Guyana, South America is Omai gold mine.
