He spent some parts of his life in New York and New Jersey. Jefferson Perez is an Ecuadorian athlete specializing in the 20-kilometer event of Olympics. He won two Olympic medals. Pop sensation Christina Aguilera is Ecuadorian-American. Aguilera's father was born in Guayaquil. She won the Latin Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Album in 2001.

The current president of Ecuador — Rafael Correa — is best known for his work towards removing poverty from the country as the Finance Minister. He has been the President since 2006.
