Ambato, Arajuno, Babahoyo, Bahia de Caraquez, Banos, Duran, Esmeraldas, Guaranda, Ibarra, Latacunga, Mcas, Manta, Milagro, Nueva Loja, Portoviejo, Pinas, Pintag, Salinas, Shell Mera, Tulcan and Riobamba.
But the beauty of Ecuador also lies in its pluri-nationality, and in addition to the whites, blacks and mestizos many Ecuadorians come from smaller indigenous nations like Achuar, Epera, Huaorani, Shuar, Chibuelo, Salasaca and Waranka. There is also a thriving, tiny East-Asian community that comprises of 2,500 people of Japanese and Chinese descent.
Quito is the capital and is located in central Ecuador, while Guayaquil has the largest population and is in the South. It is the most populous city and is the nation’s chief port as it is located on the western bank of the Guayas River (this empties into the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Guayaquil). La Villa de San Antonio de Caraquezor simpler still, Bahia is famous as a vacation spot for wealthy tourists and Ecuadorians alike. It is located on a sandy peninsula on the western coast and it became an Ecocity in February 23rd 1999 because of the devastation wrecked on it from the two natural disasters of 1997 and 1998.
Another city of note is Manta in the Manabi province. It is the third most important city economically in Ecuador with the largest sea port. It is also the US military location for carrying out anti-narcotics military operations. It is also home to a film festival that sees groups from over the world flock to it.
