Colombia is the land of several tradition and culture. Though it lacks its uniqueness but this feature make it more attractive. |
Most of people residing in Colombia speak Spanish. American Indian language is the second largest speaking language of Colombia. Roman Catholic is most popular religion here; most of the Colombian followed it.
Role of church is very important, it plays significant role in personal affairs such as wedding, childbirth and other family life. Priest is consider as the shadow of God, he is the focal point of society, all social activities are connected to church and priest in some way or another. This is not all church play significant role in other aspects of society also like education, social welfare and union organization.
Family is considered as most important social unit. Family is the source of support and strength. Family ties are bind with love, care and loyalty. Most of the families have become nuclear now but the importance of extended family members is still important. Unmarried children prefer to live with their parents. Elder people get special respect and care in the family. The society structure of Columbia is hierarchical in nature. Age and position are the main factor that decide person’s place in society. Elder people make all-important decision of the family.
Shaking hand with firm grip and direct eye contact is most common greeting style among Colombian people. When people get closer to each other formal greeting become warmer embracing and kissing each other is common among good & close friends. To refer a person his honorific title and surname is used.
To feel the warmth and affection of the culture one must visit this land.
