It is hot and humid along the west coast and is extremely hot, dry and harsh desert in the east. Yemen with its wide range of arable climatic zones has the greatest potential for agricultural development of any nation on the Arabian Peninsula. There is a lot of potential in that field in this place. Yemen is a low income country and agriculture is a crucial part of the economy. It accounted for 17% of Gross Domestic Product in 2001. Earlier Yemen was very famous for its coffee which was shipped from the port of Al-Mukha; this is where the English word ‘Mocha’ come from. This makes it a very famous and special feature.

The main cash crop of Yemen is a highly perishable product called Qat; it’s a kind of a mild stimulant which is chewed by the Yeminis on everyday basis. But due to its highly perishable nature it can’t be exported.  Agriculture output in Yemen includes sorghum, seed cotton, sesame seeds, coffee, cotton, tomatoes, wheat, bananas and grapes. Even after industrial farming and using the modern irrigational techniques, it only provides a level of production to nearly satisfy the domestic market. In other words, due to high cost of production, Yemen is not able to compete with international market for the marketing of its produce. The food here is famous and diverse.
