The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven states which are also called the emirates. This is one of the best places in the world.  It was formed in 1971 by the Trucial States after getting freedom from Britain. It is situated in the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula in Southwest Asia on the Persian Gulf bordering Saudi Arabia and Oman. Something which very few would know is that the UAE before 1971 was known as the Trucial States or Trucial Oman.

These names cropped up due to the truce between the United Kingdom and several Arab Sheiks in the 19th century. Truce is a kind of a temporary agreement of peace between the two opponents and that is how the names Trucial States/ Trucial Oman came into picture. The Trucial States, now popularly known as The United Arab Emirates consists of seven emirates which are known as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman , Umm al-Quwain, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah.

Out of these seven states, Abu Dhabi is the capital state and it is the second largest city of the United Arab Emirates. Apart from being the second largest city and the capital state of the United Arab Emirates, all the cultural, political and industrial activities take place here. Dubai takes away the title for being the largest emirate of the United Arab Emirates.
