The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a well developed and modern country. People who are traveling from the United States to Saudi Arabia and are US citizens, are requested to register with the US Embassy and get information on the local travel and security for the country. |
A five year multiple entry visa is given to American tourists and students since May 2008. As of now, this type of visa is only available in the Embassy of Saudi Arabia located in Washington D.C and is given solely to American passport holders. In the past, Americans who traveled to Israel were refused a Saudi visa but now, this is no restrictions anymore. Visitors, who are women and students, have to meet their sponsors in the airport itself to be allowed entry.
United States women citizens should be aware that in case they are considering relocating to the country, they need the permission of the male of the household to travel. Even if the United States Embassy intercedes, there is no chance that they women would be allowed to travel without the consent of their husbands or fathers. Mothers cannot take their children even if they are allowed to leave the country. However, on February 20, 2008, a new agreement was drafted in Saudi to allow Saudi men to marry foreign nationals. In addition, this new agreement proposes that the foreign spouses of the Saudi nationals be allowed to travel freely along with their children at their will. However, as stated, this rule will be applied to foreign spouses and their children only.
If your five years visa has expired and you end up overstaying in Saudi Arabia, you are liable to be fined up to 10,000 Saudi riyals, and thereafter be deported.
