The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recently signed a convention on biological diversity to save some species, and maintain certain biologically diverse habitats of the country. Their religion also preaches them to do so. Conserving the resources of the earth is an Islamic law. |
In Saudi Arabia, rare group of species are found, and it is critical to the world that these species are not lost. Much of this country could not be penetrated due to the lack of resources.
Most of Saudi Arabia comprises of deserts and is uninhabited. The desert and the semi arid regions are sparsely spotted with the Bedouin tribes. Though not much vegetation in terms of plants are found here, there some weeds, shrubs and herbs that grow here and can be invaluable. Saudi Arabia is mostly populated on its western and eastern coasts where the land is arable. Population is also concentrated around oasis like Buraydah.
Saudi Arabia is rich in oil reserves. The only sign of water year around for them is the Red Sea, and in these parts the sea, there are has world class coral reefs. The Gulf of Aqaba mainly has the most of the reefs.
The fauna includes ibex, baboons, wolves, hyenas, and some wildcats. Several birds, that are migratory, are found near the oases. The only rich habitat is in the sea, and around the coral reefs marine life is rich and exotic. Preserving the marine life and the desert species is of utmost importance in Saudi Arabia, and experts are educating people here to preserve their surrounding environment.
