Kuwait is a great place to live. The standard of living here is very good. As a matter of fact, it is at par with the standard of living in most western countries.

The cost of living in Kuwait can be compared with that in European countries. Kuwait provides employment for a large number of people from different parts of the world .Hence it has a large foreign population. The standard of living primarily depends on the life style of an individual. The basic requirements like food, clothing and shelter are comparatively expensive. The rent for a single bed room flat ranges from 100-150 KD where as that of a double bedroom apartment ranges from 200-250KD.

Lack of taxation has a notable effect on the cost of certain luxury items like cars. International brands of food, clothing and other house hold stuffs are available in Kuwait at a slightly higher rate. The price of wine and spirits are higher when compared to European markets. The lower import duties make it possible to have electronic gadgets at a lesser price. Hence computers, televisions, DVDs, cameras etc can be purchased at a lesser price. There are seasonal cost variation on electronic equipments like air-conditioning systems and heating systems.

Major utilities such as electricity, water and gas are given subsidy for the benefit of the local population. The cost of international telephone calls is less when compared to other Gulf countries. This is a result of an initiative by the Kuwait Government to encourage international business and investment. Buses and taxis ferry thousands of people everyday. Most people own cars. A salary of 250 KD is essential to obtain a driving license in Kuwait.
