Kuwaiti cuisine is greatly influenced by Arab, Indian, Persian and Mediterranean styles of cooking.

Therefore, the traditional foods contain a blend of spices, herbs, meat and vegetables cooked to perfection. The traditional tabeekh of Bedouin way of cooking is still practiced in many homes. The whole meal is cooked in a pot placed over burning charcoal. First, the meat, fish or vegetables are browned at the bottom of the pan and then this is added along with water and allowed to cook. In the marag style of cooking, the vegetables or meat is first grilled or boiled and then cooked with rice in a large pot placed over charcoal. Spices like cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, black pepper, cumin, ginger etc are widely used in cooking Kuwaiti dishes. These spices can be brought at the local grocery centers.

Popular Kuwaiti dishes include kouzi, machboos, jireesh, lugaimat, balaleet, zalabia and so on. Kouzi is the Kuwaiti national dish. It consists of roasted lamb stuffed with rice, chicken and eggs. Machboos is similar to the Indian biriyani. It consists of fragrant rice cooked with mutton and spices. Indian biriyani is also very popular in Kuwait. A dish of meat and barley cooked together and seasoned with cinnamon, called harees is also very popular in Kuwait. Kabsa is a mixture of rice seasoned with herbs and spices and served with roasted meat. The meat is traditionally roasted in a deep hole in the ground or grilled on hot, flat stones.

Laban or thick buttermilk is a popular drink in Kuwait. It is a refreshing drink that relives the stress of the summer heat. Seafood dishes are also quite popular in Kuwait. Mumawwash is a seafood dish made of rice and black lentils along with dried shrimp. Another seafood dish is mutabbaq samak which is made of rice cooked along with fish from the Arabian Gulf. Balaleet, ghuraiba, gers ogaily etc are other popular dishes of Kuwait.
