Machboos is similar to the Indian biriyani. It consists of fragrant rice cooked with mutton and spices. Indian biriyani is also very popular in Kuwait. A dish of meat and barley cooked together and seasoned with cinnamon, called harees is also very popular in Kuwait. Kabsa is a mixture of rice seasoned with herbs and spices and served with roasted meat. The meat is traditionally roasted in a deep hole in the ground or grilled on hot, flat stones.

Laban or thick buttermilk is a popular drink in Kuwait. It is a refreshing drink that relives the stress of the summer heat. Seafood dishes are also quite popular in Kuwait. Mumawwash is a seafood dish made of rice and black lentils along with dried shrimp. Another seafood dish is mutabbaq samak which is made of rice cooked along with fish from the Arabian Gulf. Balaleet, ghuraiba, gers ogaily etc are other popular dishes of Kuwait.
