Things To Do In Bamberg Germany

Bamberg is a city in Bavaria, Germany. It is also a UNESCO world heritage site. Bamberg is also known as the World War II Survivor because Germany was severely destroyed then, but somehow this city was spared. That is why most of the ancient cathedrals and churches are still intact.

Bamberg’s specialty is its beer called Rauchbier. It is made in a special way where the hops are smoked. It can be had in all the Strasses in downtown. There are hundreds of breweries and pubs known as Strasse in Bamberg.

This is one town which has kept its medieval appearance intact. That is why it has been earned the privilege of being a UNESCO heritage site. Some of the popular places to visit are:

• A cathedral built in 1237 AD and houses the tombs of King Henry II and Pope Clement II.
• Alte Holfhaltung is an old residence of bishops from the 16th century.
• A 13th century town hall that was built is in the middle of the Regnitz River. This town hall is accessible through two bridges built on either side of the town hall.
• Michaels Berg Abbey was built in the 12th century and in located in the Bamberg’s seven hills range.

         The best way to explore Bamberg is by foot. Most of the castles and other heritage sites require walking up the hill. Some castles are located on top of hills and have steep steps. Some tourists take the option of bicycles. However, it requires a lot of effort and depends on your physical fitness level.
