Visitors who seek fun at beaches can come here to experience the pristine environment and sea life. Those who want to be close to nature can spend time in the forests here. The forests are covered with cedar trees, and there are several bridges built to facilitate trekking. This, in turn, truly makes the trekking more adventurous for visitors. Mount Miyanoura, which is 2000 feet above sea level, is a popular trekking spot.

During the summer months, people rent canoes and paddle through the river that runs through the island. Yakushima’s flower parks are some of the most renowned ones in the world, and also it has the most beautiful waterfalls. One of the top 100 waterfalls of the world is located here.

Now, Yakushima has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site mainly due to its diverse flora and fauna. Almost the entire island is made up of natural forest. The island has some exquisite trees which are called the yakusugi trees. These are huge natural cedars that grow on the island. The monkeys and deer found here are very different from those elsewhere.

The beaches of the island are popular grounds for turtle breeding. Visitors can actually watch them. The best way to get around the island is by trekking, and also by car.
