The country that is Ghana is located in the Western part of Africa more specifically on the Guinea Gulf. The country consists of rivers, plains and low hills. The country has been divided into five geographical regions. The country’s coastline consists of low sandy shores that are backed by scrubs and plains and subsequently intersected by streams and rivers. |
On the other hand, the country’s northern part mostly consists of high plains. The South central and South western part of Ghana comprise of forested plateau regions that consist of the Kwahu Plateau, the Akuapim-Togo Ranges that are hilly as well as the Ashanti Uplands. Mount Afadjato is the highest point in Ghana. It is located within the Akuapim-Togo Ranges.
A large part of central Ghana is taken up by the Volta Basin. Ghana is home to Lake Volta, the largest artificial lake in the world. The lake is the major source of such tributary rivers as Afram and Oti.
The country experiences only two season; dry and wet. Between March and November, the country experiences the rainy season. The southern part experiences this season between April and November.
There are quite a few forests in Ghana. However, the semi deciduous and evergreen forests in the southern region of the country are the most popular. They consist of such trees as ebony, mahogany and odum. These forests also house mangrove and palm oil trees. The country’s northern and Volta regions are home to forests that consist of trees such as acacia, Shea and baobab.
