They can be found in the southwest of Jinka and Debub Omo Zone. Th Me’en is located in Bachuma and has a population of 151,489.
The 3 different ethnic groups living in Surma have the same cultures. People living here are heavily armed with automatic firearms because of the traditional rivalries. When a man is seeking for a bride, the man should undergo a stick fighting or they call it as donga. Men should shave his head and must not wear any clothes during the fight. Women will make themselves beautiful and they have to remove their bottom teeth and pierce and stretch their bottom lips to insert the 5 diameter plate in it. But this custom is now practiced less. The literacy level of the people here is quite low.
Women are in charge of the household. Men perform their own roles according to their age group. All decisions in the assembly are made by men headed by a chief of the tribe called Komoru. Women are not allowed to participate in this assembly.
