Ethiopia is located in the African continent. It is a Federal Democratic Republic where the President is the head of the state and the head of the government is a Prime Minister.

It is composed of 9 regional states namely the Gambella, Afar, Harari, Tigray, Somali, Southern Nations, Oromia, Benishangul-Gumuz, and the Amhara. After the dictatorship of the Mengistu military in the year of 1991, the constitution of the country was established in the year of 1994.

Adis Ababa is the capital of Ethiopia. Its name means “New Flower”. It was a name given by the Empress Taytu in 1886. It is located 2,500 above sea level. Dire Dawa is the second largest city in Ethiopia and the largest town is the Gondar.

The area of the land is 1,119, 683square kilometers and the water covered by its territory is 7,444 square kilometers. The lowest point is the Denakil Depression which is 125 meters and the highest point is the Ras Dejen which is 4,620 meters. 
The population living in Ethiopia is approximately 70 million where 80 percent of it is living in the rural areas of the country. It has over 80 ethnic groups that can be found in this country. The religion of the people here are mainly Christianity and Islam.

French, Italian, Arabic and English are the different languages spoken by the Ethiopians. But the official language used is the Amharic. In the rural areas, there are about 200 dialects used among these are the Somali, Oromo, and the Tigrinya.

The ethnic groups is composed of 40 percent Oromo, Amhara and the Tigre 32 percent, 9 percent are Sidamo, Shankella 6 percent, the Somali which is 6 percent, Afar is 4 percent, the Gurage is 2 percent and other ethnic groups is composed of 1percent.
