Does it snow in Ethiopia? This is the most asked question by many about the climate in Ethiopia. Theoretically, although there is some ice caused by the precipitation, it does not snow in this country like in America. |
Its climatic condition, especially in the high grounds, is very cold. It has different tropical climate in three different zones. The first one is the cool zone or as they call it Dega which has a temperature of near freezing up to 16 degrees Celsius. This occurs in the area that is above 8,530ft or 2,600 meters. Most of the alpine vegetation can be found in this area. Next is the Woyin Dega or the Temperate zone. The temperature in this area in Ethiopia ranges from 16 to 30 degrees Celsius. It is in this area where most people of Ethiopia lives. The area of the temperate zone is between 4,920ft or 1,500 meters or 8,530ft or 2,600 meters. And the third climatic zone is the hot zone or the Qola. They call the intense Qola as Bereha. It is in this area where they experience the hottest condition. This area is from 4,920 feet or 1,500 meters that has a hot temperature from 27 degrees Celsius to 50 degrees Celsius.
The rainy season in Ethiopia is from the middle of the month of June to the middle of September. But it is longer in the highlands in the south. From the month of February to March occurs the irregular shower and the rest is already dry season.
